Although operators are encouraged to practice simplex testing at any time and day, a scheduled simplex calling drill happens in the Conroe, Texas vicinity at 7:15 PM each Sunday after the Conroe 700 Weekly Net. The official chosen frequency is 462.550 MHz AKA GMRS Channel 15 with no tones or offset. Please join us in our efforts to build our simplex network!
In 2023, a simplex calling project was initiated within the Texas GMRS community of operators in an effort to establish a reliable network of simplex stations which could communicate without the need for a repeater. The operators who have spearheaded this project began coordinating efforts over the Conroe 700 GMRS repeater in Conroe, Texas, which is the reason for the chosen name of our growing simplex network. Though several things have changed in GMRS since 2023, our intentions with the project remain the same today.
And today many of us GMRS operators are now also HAM Radio operators, so we have decided to blend the use of both services in our training and testing exercises so that we can maximize the potential benefits of a simplex network. We expect to eventually be able to reliably relay messages through this network so than it may be used to serve the general public in times of need. We invite you to join us in our efforts, wherever you may operate.
Tentatively, we are planning our next meet-up event for November 15th, 2025, from 9AM-2PM at Cagle Recreation Area near New Waverly, Texas. Those interested in camping can plan to camp there Friday and Saturday night, potentially, and should reserve a camp site in advance. Reservations made on individual basis. All others can join us for breakfast, fellowship and a FOX hunt on Saturday. We hope to see you there!
